Why Is Reading Important?

As we grow and expand our lives into different grade levels and in future careers, reading is something we will always do.  It does not matter what job you perform or where you go, you will run into text that you will have to engage with and read.  As a matter of fact, what are you doing now on my web page?  I assign reading that is to be done each night.  Let me share a visual with you.

Which student would you expect to become a better reader?
Which student would you expect to know more and have better background knowledge?
Which student would you expect could write better?
Which student would have better vocabulary, therefore, better comprehension?
Which student is more than likely to have a more successful school career?
Which student would end up doing better on the state testing?
How do you think Student A will feel about themselves as compared to Student C?

Please encourage reading in your home and set aside time each night for your child to read.  It is one of the greatest helps you could give them for academic success.
